According to Ward 1 councillor, Leon Kruyshaar, the roof had been worked on and upgraded last year, so it being blown off was not because of any negligence of any kind but rather an act of nature.

“Situations such as these could have gone way worse, so we are thankful to God that no one was hurt,” said Kruyshaar.

Leon confirmed that no family would go homeless due to this incident, and each family has all been placed in alternative accommodation until their home is ready for their return.

“I would like to thank everyone involved in the effort to help these families, from disaster relief to the emergency services and the municipality,” Kruyshaar continued.

The ward councillor urges residents to exercise caution during wet weather conditions as this incident serves as a reminder of what could potentially happen in other areas in the metro.

Residents are also advised to contact EMS immediately should an incident of a similar nature happen to or around them in order for disaster relief to assist.

The SA weather service issued a level 4 warning for disruptive rain over Pretoria.
