Search for woman who took four-day-old Mamelodi baby continues

Police say the search continued for a pregnant woman, dark in complexion, speaking Zimbabwean Tsonga who took Nomza Khoza’s (26) baby on January 17.

Mamelodi police are still searching for a woman who stole a four-day-old baby boy from his mother in Mamelodi earlier this month.

Last week, police pleaded for the public’s help in locating the missing baby.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Sam Shibambo said the search continued for a pregnant woman, dark in complexion, speaking Zimbabwean Tsonga who took Nomza Khoza’s (26) baby on January 17.

Khoza from Nellmapius ext. 24 told police that the woman vanished with her baby at Tshwane regional mall.

Shibambo said the 26-year-old mother was approached by the suspect at the Phahameng clinic in Mamelodi.

“According to the victim, the suspect asked her to accompany the suspect to the Tshwane regional mall in Mamelodi as the suspect wanted to buy clothes for her unborn baby,” said Shibambo.

Khoza said the suspect told her the nurses at the clinic booked her a bed at Mamelodi hospital where they will be waiting to admit her to give birth in the evening.

“She desperately needed someone to accompany her to buy newborn clothes either at Denlyn mall or Tshwane regional mall,” said Khoza.

Shibambo said the two took a taxi to the mall where the suspect asked the mother to find a security guard who could make a Money Market withdrawal for her as she didn’t have an ID.

“The mother left the baby with the suspect and when she returned, the woman was gone with her baby.”

She enlisted the help of mall security to search for the suspect and the baby, but their search was unsuccessful.

The suspect was wearing a pair of black leggings, a floral vest, a hat, a black mask and flip-flop shoes.

Anyone with info about the whereabouts of the suspect and the stolen baby can contact Detective Warrant Officer Mosekwane at 071 675 6774, Mamelodi police at 079 890 7469 or Crime Stop at 0860 10111.
