Six suspects arrested for various crimes in Sosh
There has been an increase to robberies with a firearm, house robberies and theft out of and from motor vehicles in Soshanguve in the past three weeks.
Soshanguve police have arrested six suspects in connection with robberies and theft in the area in the past few weeks.
Spokesperson Constable Nhlanhla Zondi said there has been an increase in robberies with a firearm, house robberies and theft out of and from motor vehicles in Soshanguve in the past three weeks.
He said suspects arrested in relation to house robberies were often linked to other cases.
Soshanguve Block VV, LVV, L, K, M, H, G and VV were identified as hotspots for house robberies.
“We have identified these places and are putting measures such as patrolling in place to ensure that we prevent crime from taking place in those areas,” he said.
He added that about three to four robbers attack a house in the late or early hours of the day.
“The robberies are committed mostly between 23:00 and 03:00 from Thursday throughout the weekend,” he said.
“Suspects gain entry either from the roof or by breaking burglar bars.”
He urged residents to ensure that their vehicles are parked in a safe place to deny criminals easy access.
“Suspects often steal canopies and tyres from vehicles,” he said.
Zondi added that community members need to be aware of these crimes as they happen around them.
He said they’ve also noticed that robberies in the streets were getting out of hand and that people have been robbed of items such as cellphones, cash and laptops.
“The community is advised to walk in groups, ensure that gates and doors are locked and that belongings are safe,” he said.
The suspects will appear in the Soshanguve magistrate’s court soon.
Any community member with information about crime within the Soshanguve policing precinct is urged to report the incident via Crime Stop on 08600 10111 anonymously.
