Various stakeholders focus on school safety awareness

A total of 220 learners were addressed and 300 flyers on substance abuse were shared with the learners and teachers at the school.

Hillview High school learners received guests from Wonderboompoort social crime prevention (WSCP) and its various partners last week to make them aware of substance abuse, peer pressure and the importance of discipline.

The visit forms part of the safer school programme and entails to address important social issues with grades 10, 11 and 12 learners.

This group was earmarked the most problematic by the school principal.

WSCP, victim-friendly services and communication departments were supported by non-profit organisation, Kopano Manyano and ex-convict founder of Lebohang Manamela Foundation.

Manamela shared stories about his life of crime – how he got into crime and his experiences as a criminal.

He also spoke about the harsh reality of the life of a gangster, being shot by the police while committing a crime and the harsh life in prison.

He pleaded with the learners to change their mindset and focus on their studies to craft a positive future for themselves and refrain from taking drugs and live a clean and positive life.
