Ward 80 residents clean up illegal dumpsite
The Tshwane metro sent workers and a vehicle to help clear up the litter.
Ward 80 residents and stakeholders have come together to clear up an illegal dumpsite outside a school in Salvokop, Pretoria West.
Ward councillor Debyre Williams-Moses applauded the effort of the parties involved and hopes their actions will inspire others.
“We are taking back our communities, one by one! Be the change, wherever you’re at countrywide,” said Williams-Moses.
Special thanks were given to local community leaders, Apos Clyde and Samantha Plaatjies for their proactivity in the clean-up outside Jopie Fourie Primary School.
The school situated at 222 on 5th Avenue, Salvokop, had been subjected to illegal dumping of late and ward 80 residents have expressed gratitude to Williams-Moses for the clean-up.

“We just wanted to thank you so much for your escalation on the illegal dumping site. We are not done yet but Tshwane helped us tremendously to start. Me and my hubby will go again with the community to continue. We appreciate you [councillor],” said one pleased resident.

“Your efforts as well as the ANC councillor of the ward really helped us, thank you Williams-Moses!” said another satisfied local.
Williams-Moses explained that through haggling the metro she was able to get assistance for her ward and has no intention of stopping.
“When there was no response from the Tshwane leaders last year, I escalated the matter on Thursday to the relevant department for assistance,” Williams-Moses concluded.
Residents are urged to desist from littering and to report any illegal dumpsites to the relevant authorities.
