Akasia residents warned of house-breaking trend
“If community members still feel unsafe, we encourage them to alert the police of suspicious persons and activities in the community.”
Police in the north of Pretoria have urged residents to be alert following a rise in house-breakings where robbers enter a house under false pretenses to steal valuables.
Akasia police station commander Godfrey Zwane hosted a community engagement to raise the awareness of this recently joined by CPF chairperson and ward councillors.
Zwane said unsuspecting residents invited people claiming to be spreading the word of God, selling something or from government organisations, into their home.
Once inside, the robbers accost the resident then rob them.
Zwane warned residents not to open their door to strangers, especially when they have doubts about their intentions.
He advised residents to be cautious and ask employees of government organisations like Stats SA to produce their employment card.
“If community members still feel unsafe, we encourage them to alert the police of suspicious persons and activities in the community.”
The Akasia police telephone line is currently not functional, however, technicians are working on the issues.
In the meantime, residents should use the following numbers to reach the police station:
– Client Service Commander: 071 675 6300
– Vispol Commander: 082 498 4542
– Detective Branch Commander: 082 319 9579
– Station Commander: 082 498 7545
