Mams community rallies to cover books for poor
"The campaign is growing fast and hopefully we will meet our target of making sure that all learners in Mamelodi have neat books."

Nellmapius learners from disadvantaged backgrounds had their books covered last Saturday.
Organiser Tlago Tisa Selepe, in partnership with Zaza Wines and the local community, covered the 630 books for free as part of its back-to-school campaign at Sweet Corner Nellmapius extension 4.
Selepe said his target for the year was to see all children’s books in Mamelodi and Nellmapius covered to ensure they are neat and last long.
She said 60 volunteers, Zaza Wines, Back Yard and the community dug deep into their pockets to buy book covers, sticky tape, scissors and other stationery for this campaign to be successful.
“The aim is to motivate learners to look forward to going to school every day,” she said.
Selepe said the parents who brought their children’s books also helped with the covering, and the campaign is growing fast
“Hopefully we will meet our target of making sure that all learners in Mamelodi have covered books,” she said, adding that the initiative had started because some parents did not have the means to cover their children’s books.
She said she approached several schools in Mamelodi to ask them to bring their books if they did have the means to do so themselves.
“The children were accompanied by their parents and we even organised lunch for the children,” she said.
“We are happy with the response.”
She said the theme for this year was “Help keep a child in school without the fear of discrimination”.
She said members of the public should come on board with any form of a donation to make the book-covering campaign a success and ensure all children in Mamelodi and surrounding areas had beautiful books.
She said the next campaign will be held at 537 Kubu Street in Section A1 Mamelodi west on February 4.
