Bright future ahead for Mamelodi top achiever
This cheque is to help her get her studies going in terms of finances, like study materials.

A top achieving matric 2022 Rephafogile secondary school learner has scored a R20 000 bursary.
Mazwi Thuto (18) of Mamelodi East in Lusaka obtained six matric distinctions last year and was part of Dlalisa Moyeni Foundation mentorship programme to motivate matric learners ahead of their final matric exams in Mamelodi.
Thuto said she worked very hard throughout the year studying even during load-shedding.
She said the programme and the extra classes in the afternoon and weekends played a big role in her achieving the good results.
“My parents made an effort to buy me a lamp to study during load-shedding,” said Thuto.
She plans on studying actuarial science at the University of the Witswatersrand, and will use the R20 000 cheque to buy study aids such as books and a laptop.

She said the class of 2023 must stay focused on books and forget about parties and dating.
“There is enough time for a social life and boyfriends and girlfriends but first achieve your goals… complete your matric and second follow your career,” she said.
Nompumelelo Skosana of Dlalisa Moyeni Foundation said the non-profit organisation was founded in 2020 to ensure that no child is left behind.
“Dlalisa Moyeni Foundation is here to hand over the R20 000 cheque to the top achieving learner.
“This cheque is basically to help her get her studies going in terms of finances.
“We believe in achieving and rewarding excellence, we believe that a child has done well.
“It is within our right to give them tools and materials to assist them,” she said.
The message to the learners of Rephafogile and the matric class of 2023 is to “start the year with excellence”.
“Excellence is defined as the maximum standard, the highest possible quality and we believe if they start with excellence today, 90 days to come there should be a difference.
“Let excellence be in your mind and let it translate in your speech and it would be demonstrated in your life.”
