Sosh police arrest two for unlicensed firearms

Soshanguve Station Commander Brigadier Michelle-Ann Toohey applauded officers for a wonderful job done.

Soshanguve police arrested two men for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition on Monday, February 6.

SAPS said that the arrest was important as most crimes in the area involve firearms.

Police received an anonymous tip-off about unlicensed firearms around block H, according to police spokesperson Constable Nhlanhla Zondi.

“The police responded swiftly to the situation which led to the arrest of two men aged 34 and 40,” said Zondi.

Zondi said the suspects were found in possession of a shotgun, an AK47, a Norinco pistol, a magazine and 10 bullets. He said that all of the firearms had their serial numbers filed off.

Soshanguve police station commander, Brigadier Michelle-Ann Toohey applauded the officers for a job well done. “Most crimes within the area are firearm-related,” she said.

Toohey urged officers to continue serving the community with pride and dedication, and also thanked the community for working together with the police.

Zondi said that the arrested suspects were expected to appear in the Soshanguve magistrate’s court.
