Tshwane flying squad recovers stolen bakkie at Valhalla shopping centre

Police say it was stolen in Pretoria east.

Tshwane flying squad on Tuesday recovered a stolen bakkie at a shopping centre in Valhalla, Centurion.

Spokesperson Sergeant Alfred Legodi said the bakkie was stolen in Pretoria east but was unclear on when.

Garsfontein has been a major headache for the local police concerned about the number of stolen motor vehicle reports.

Recently, Rekord reported a spike in crime in the east of Pretoria.

According to Fidelity ADT, in the last week of January, there had been mounting reports of burglaries and theft out of motor vehicles in the area.

As a precautionary measure, police provided the following tips to curb vehicle theft:

– a vehicle should be parked in a locked garage and in the yard

– do not park in the driveway as anyone can gain access to the vehicle

– when parking at a shopping complex, be aware of your surroundings

– tell a security guard on the premises (shopping complex) when you see a suspicious vehicle

– report suspicious vehicles/persons in your area

– only take a photo of a suspicious person if it is safe to do so

– don’t show the registration number of your vehicle in pictures you post to social media

– develop a relationship with your local CPF
