Disciplinary hearing for Hercules learner after pepper-spray incident

Seven learners were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

A Hoërskool Hercules learner who pepper-sprayed his classmates last Thursday has been charged with misconduct.

Gauteng education department spokesperson Steve Mabona said seven of the classmates had to be rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

He confirmed that a disciplinary hearing for the learner was scheduled for February 16.

“We are aware of the incident in which a learner allegedly pulled a pepper spray from an educator’s drawer and playfully discharged the spray while the educator was busy with teaching and learning,” he said.

“Accordingly, the school governing board charged the learner with misconduct.

“We are pleased that all affected learners were discharged from the hospital on the same day.”
