Palmiet water pump station now at max capacity

“Parts of the three metros - Tshwane, Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni - might have been affected.”

Rand Water’s Palmiet pumping station is back online after experiencing a power trip earlier this week.

The power failure had affected reservoirs in Klipriviersberg, Northridge, Germiston, Klipfontein, Brakfontein and Hartebeeshoek, according to spokesperson Makenosi Maroo.

“Some parts of the three metros, namely Tshwane, Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni might have been affected.”

She said the power failure was experienced on Tuesday

“We are pleased to report back that the system has been restored.”

Maroo said the pumping station was restored to service at 20:00 and the system was pumping at maximum capacity by 23:40.

“The water utility would like to thank its technical team and the Eskom team for working around the clock to identify the root cause and more importantly for restoring the affected system.”

The now operational station, which equips Rand Water with 40% of its total capacity, had to be completely shut down for worker teams to find fault.

“Rand Water is in constant discussions around the impact of load-shedding and we hope that a sustainable solution will be found soon.”
