Tshwane warns of possible Zonderwater power outage

The metro advised residents to switch off all electrical appliances to avoid damage.

The Tshwane metro has warned Zonderwater residents of possible power outages in the area on Wednesday.

Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the possible outage was a result of the planned maintenance of Zonderwater Brandwag substation.

He said the maintenance was expected to last for 7 hours from 09:00 to 16:00 and advised residents to switch all electrical appliances off to avoid damage when the power comes back.

The following areas will be affected:

– Zonderwater Kraal

– Zonderwater Davsteel (Africa Tanks)

– Zonderwater Prison Cullinan Town and plots

Residents were urged to treat all electricity supply points as live at all times.

Previous Zonderwater substation maintenance has left areas such as Cullinan and Refilwe without power for quite some time.

Late last year, Eskom cut the power supply from its main feeders to the substation for maintenance.

Earlier this year, the metro expressed its concern over the rise in load-shedding stages, which it said was affecting the condition of its electricity network and its ability to attend to outages.

MMC for Utilities and Regional Operations Daryl Johnston warned residents that load-shedding could overload the network resulting in additional outages.

Johnston said that higher load-shedding stages stretched the city’s resources because people had to switch systems on and off, adding that residents should help the municipality manage this difficult time.
