Sinoville CPF introduces two-way radio for emergency communication
“A two-way radio works when other forms of communication do not and the CPF radio network provides 24-hour access to SAPS and emergency services.”

The Sinoville CPF encouraged residents to use their two-way radio network to communicate in times of crisis and power outages.
Load-shedding has kept residents in the dark and has also put their safety at risk as criminals take advantage of the lack of efficient communication.
“When cellphone towers go down during load-shedding, online communication systems that use data do not work,” said Sinoville CPF spokesperson Lizette du Plooy.
These include WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, email, PTT over cellular, voice over IP as well as Google Maps.
“A two-way radio works when other forms of communication do not and the CPF radio network provides 24-hour access to SAPS and emergency services,” she said.
While the radios can keep the residents in contact with law enforcement services during power outages, the Sinoville CPF added the following preventative measures for residents to keep safe:
– Batteries should be checked regularly (phone, laptop, portable lights and other electronic devices).
– Alarms and batteries should be checked during extended load-shedding to keep systems running.
– Lock all doors and windows at all times. This applies to your house, your vehicle and any outbuildings on your property. This also applies whether you are at home or not.
– Keep valuables out of sight. Never leave keys, wallets, cellphones or any other small items on a table or anywhere close to a window.
– If you are worried about your security when there is no power, call your private security provider to check the premises.
– Do not ignore SMS messages that refer to low batteries.
– Make sure that your alarm batteries are working optimally; if you aren’t sure, call your security provider to test.
– Make sure that your electric fences are connected to a backup battery.
– Power cuts can impact fire systems and fire control systems; so these also need to be checked regularly.
– Keep your gate battery functioning at optimal levels – a flat gate battery may leave you vulnerable outside your home.
– Install solar lighting in strategic locations around your house.
– The more frequent use of gas and candles can increase the risk of fire and home fire extinguishers should be on hand.
– Above all, remain vigilant during a power cut; be on the lookout for any suspicious activity and report this to your security service provider, CPF or SAPS immediately.
