Eskom restores power to station pumping water to Tshwane
Areas that might be affected are Corobrick; Garsfontein reservoir, Woodlands Mall, Mooikloof reservoir, Leander, Six fountain Estate, Silver willows, Hatherley, Savanah and Mamelodi among other areas.
Eskom has restored power supply to a Rand Water Mapleton station that pumps water to Tshwane, the metro said on Thursday morning.
Eskom had said that insulators on the Mapleton line was vandalised, affecting water supply to the metro.
The power utility said in a statement on Wednesday that it was working on restoring supply.
Rand Water spokesperson Makenosi Maroo said a total power supply failure occurred at the station, fed from the Eskom grid.
MMC for utilities and regional operations Daryl Johnston said on Thursday morning that power was restored to the station at 07:30.
Johnston said the metro would continue monitoring this situation and pleaded for residents to cautiously use water.
He said the original estimated time of repair had been 23:00 on Wednesday and this would have prevented a drop to water levels in the reservoirs that supply Tshwane.
“However, due to wet weather and criminals opportunistically vandalising the network, the power restoration was delayed until 06:00 this morning.
“We need to ask residents to please use water cautiously today. Please remember that the City is still under Level 2 water restrictions, and we need residents to assist us to stretch the available supply until fresh water starts flowing again from the station.”
He said further updates would follow once Tshwane confirms that water supply had been restored or any further problem.
The following areas are likely to suffer water supply interruptions in the metro:
– Corobrick
– Garsfontein reservoir
– Woodlands Mall
– Mooikloof reservoir
– Midas
– Koedoesnek
– Leander
– Glastonbury reservoir
– Graham road
– Six Fountains estate
– Silver willows
– Heatherley
– Nellmapius
– Savannah
– Mamelodi
“Rand Water apologises for any inconvenience caused and urges consumers to continue using water sparingly.”
