From story-telling to theatre, pop to blues, fill your calendar with some live events this weekend.

It’s pay-day weekend for most in the year’s shortest month, so why not celebrate with a bit of Pretoria’s cultural offerings this weekend. Local, lekker, and with a load of variety, the Jacaranda city is the place to be this weekend.
Ross Harding, February 23

For those heavy rock and blues fans, Ross van den Heever, professionally known as Ross Harding, will be headlining Storytellers Night at Jarr Bar for a Thursday night jam. The living legend recently tied the knot with his long time “partner, baby mama, best friend and love” of his life.

Harding’s rich and versatile vocals accompany his expert guitar knowledge as the globally recognised name entertains Pretorians from 19:30.
Irene-Louise van Wyk, February 24
Pretoria’s own pink pop princess is out to give fans that “Tekkies Brand” sensation on Friday night. Van Wyk is freshly off the airplane following packed shows across Australia.
Irene-Louise van Wyk had a successful 2022, releasing several new singles and being recognised at music awards, including the Pretoria FM Aitsa Awards where Van Wyk was nominated for Artist of the year and Pop song of the year, and was awarded most successful Afrikaans single of 2022 for “Tekkies Brand”.

See her at Cool Runnings in Centurion this Friday from 20:00.
Drommedaris Drum Duo, February 24
This father-daughter duo can hit all the right spots with their creative take on Electronic Dance Music as they sing trance covers and play novel instruments such as plastic water cans.

Alika du Plessis and Hans Drommedaris founded the duo during lockdown, and haven’t looked back since. The duo, that has since opened for the likes of Francois van Coke, Jack Parow, Synth Peter, Spoegwolf, Bok van Blerk, and Elandré.
They will be performing at Jitterbugz from 20:00 on Friday.
Spoegwolf, February 24

Prolific Paarl band Spoegwolf will be descending on the Jacaranda City to perform world travelled hits as it returns to home soil.
In 2022 the much-loved band released its latest album Droombrief a collection of love letters of a sort, with poetic lyrics that pull at the heart strings and make full use of the impact of Spoegwolf’s sentimental perfected sound.
The band will be performing at Atterbury Theatre from 19:00.
Anton Goosen & Illimar Neitz, February 24

Absolute legend Anton Goosen will be pairing up with Illimar Neitz at the intimate Barcelona Café for a night to remember.
Since the 80s, the Liedjieboer has been serving unforgettable classic blues, having released loads of famous Afrikaans hits that have been performed at venues across the country. Goosen shows no signs of slowing down. The show starts at 18:00.
Elandré, February 25

The small town dreamer Elandré Schwartz burst onto the South African music scene in 2017 when his debut album, Kleindorp-dreamer, became an overnight success. He didn’t let his dream die there and has since released two albums, Boomhuis in 2019, and Rugsak in 2020.
Pretoria fans can catch Elandré live on Saturday from 19:30 at Die Blou Hond.
Plesierengel: Die Verhoogstuk, February 24 and 25

Adapted by Leon van Nierop for the stage and based on his award-winning novel, Plesierengel tells the story of Tristan Hansen, a prostitute and the reason why he chose this path.
The drama is based on a true story that investigates themes of loneliness, defencelessness, desperation, needs and the huge and unexpected turns that Tristan Hansen’s story took.
The show, back by popular demand, can be caught at Centurion Theatre on Friday from 19:30, and Saturday from 15:
