N4 roadworks blamed for four accidents
“These roadworks are endangering the lives of motorists,” says a local ward councillor.
Roadworks on the N4 Solomon Mahlangu Drive are endangering motorists’ lives, a local ward councillor said.
CPF member and local ward councillor Jarad Frimmel said four accidents were reported over the weekend with only mild to moderate injuries were suffered.
“These roadworks are endangering the lives of motorists,” said Frimmel.
The first accident was in the early hours of Sunday morning, March 5.

The Brooklyn CPF response and support team responded to the accident at 02:30.
Upon arrival at the scene, it was discovered that a motor vehicle had struck the concrete barriers on the side of the road.
“Four patients, whose injuries ranged from minor to moderate were treated by first responders until they could be transported to the nearest hospital by ambulance,” Frimmel continued.
In the second accident, a vehicle driving at high speed crashed into the back of a stationary truck at the same scene.

“Two occupants suffered critical injuries while the driver sustained moderate injuries. Paramedics from Advanced Paramedic Assist and Emer-G-Med stabilised the patients before transporting them to hospital for further treatment,” Frimmel said.
In the third accident, a speeding vehicle crashed into the barriers shortly after the second accident. Nobody was injured.
It is alleged that the barriers had been moved to the opposite side of the scene of the first accident.
The long night of car crashes would claim yet another as “a fourth accident took place at the same spot at 22:30”.
The response teams involved are grateful no fatalities occurred.
Residents were urged to drive cautiously late at night, especially on roads undergoing construction.
