Centurion street has a challenge for neighbours

Residents of Glover Avenue in Centurion have challenged their neighbours to beat their dog food donations to the SPCA.
Resident, Jeanne Gleimius, told Rekord that her street jumped all in when the call for dog food came.
“Within minutes of sending a request for dog food everyone committed,” she said.
“Such acts of selflessness in this tight economy show that people still have hearts.”
The residents collected 240kg of dog food to donate to the SPCA, with Abia Industrial Supplies donating the largest portion.
Reena Chetty, a resident passionate about dogs as she has her own Huskies, said that when she went to the SPCA, her heart broke and she realised she had to do something.
“From my side, I would love to challenge the business people in the area to donate food. We know business people have the money, and R100 can get you 10kg of food.”
Chetty said that residents could drop off the food at Fatima Café or directly at the SPCA but asked the donors to please donate food, not money.
SPCA director Jeanine Niemann-Greatorex said she was thankful for the initiative.
“Donations from local business and community is our only source of income. Without the support of the local community we would not be able to continue our services to the much needed assistance to all the animals in Tshwane,” said Niemann-Greatorex.
Centurion SPCA uses old and battered vehicles that need repairs monthly to cover its 6 200 square kilometre area of jurisdiction, and has taken in 400 strays, surrenders, and other intakes this year.
Niemann-Greatorex said that the agency needs 200kg of dog food a day and about 30kg of cat food a week.
She asked anyone that could help to consider the following needs:
– Donation of food on a regular basis
– Assistance with vehicle repairs
– Sponsorship of fuel
– Four new vehicles
