Another water shutdown on the cards for Pretoria residents
The water utility’s team of technicians will conduct a tie-in of the newly installed H47 pipeline meter connections. The shutdown is expected to last for 12 hours as the connection work is planned to start at 17:00 on March 23, and end at 05:00 the next day.

Tshwane residents who are residing in the east will yet again be hit by a possible water shutdown.
Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo announced on Monday that a shutdown by Rand Water would affect parts of Pretoria east.
Mashigo said the water shutdown was due to the utility’s plan to install a new tie-in pipeline meter connection.
“The water utility’s team of technicians will conduct a tie-in of the newly installed H47 pipeline meter connections. The shutdown is expected to last for 12 hours as the connection work is planned to start at 17:00 on March 23, and end at 05:00 the next day.”
He said during the shutdown, the installation of the H26 pipeline from Rietvlei Nature Reserve to Mamelodi would still be operational.
Mashigo, however, said the Savannah Estate and Heatherley meters will be isolated.
The metro’s announcement of the shutdown comes in the wake of Laudium’s residents and surrounding areas suffering from the low pressure from Rand Water’s supply system.
Areas such as Laudium, Atteridgeville, Suiderberg, Wonderboom and Soshanguve were all affected by these low-pressure systems for more than 12 hours.
Councillor Prajay Ramjee told Rekord that as far as he knows the area that was affected by the low pressure was Erasmia.
“As far as I know Laudium has not been affected that much by the low pressure, but I have not checked my groups as yet. The only place I know for certain that has been affected by the low pressure is Erasmia,” Ramjee added.
Early last week both Carina and Klapperkop reservoirs were critically low, resulting in several taps in the area running dry.
Ward 82 councillor Siobhan Muller told the publication last week that the Waterkloof Park, Waterkloof Heights, and Waterkloof Triangle to the Country Club Estate had been severely affected.
She attributed the dry tap issue to a power failure at the Zuikerbosch purification plant that hindered the pumping of water to the Carina and Klapperkop reservoirs.
“The metro had not received any warnings from Rand Water. It surprised me that the water was running dry. After investigating we concluded that one of our reservoirs was empty and the other was extremely low,” Muller said at the time.
The metro said the following areas would be affected by the shutdown:
– Heatherley
– Mamelodi all extensions
– Nellmapius ext. 2
