Laudium, neighbours suffer low water pressure
The water department team is deployed on the ground to mitigate the extent of the water shortage.
Tshwane metro has warned residents of Laudium and surrounding areas of low water pressure.
The metro communique on Sunday said Laudium, Atteridgeville, Suiderberg, Wonderboom and Soshanguve are all affected by this low pressure.
“The team has been on the ground monitoring the situation and trying everything to avoid losing all reservoirs. Suiderberg seems to be the only one battling for now but we have all hands on deck,” the metro’s communique read.
The metro and Rand Water recently experienced low reservoir levels.
The water utility said a power failure at its Zuikerbosch water treatment plant affected water supplied to the metro.
This caused a major reduction to water levels at the Mapleton, Eikenhof, Zwartkop, and Palmiet booster stations, and Rand Water reservoirs.
Water outages have been recurring for Tshwane residents recently.
From February 24 at 03:00, Rand Water implemented a 30-hour supply shut down for planned maintenance until February 25 at 09:00.
In a statement, Rand Water spokesperson, Makenosi Maroo, said the maintenance was to pipelines that run from the Mapleton booster pump station to Rynfield Vlakfontein reservoir as well as from Rynfield to Rietvlei nature reserve in Tshwane.
This led to water outages or shortages at Kalafong hospital in Atteridgeville.
These interruptions sparked protests in Soshanguve.
