Man waits almost six months for service delivery
The Wierdapark resident is frustrated after a pipe repair led to months of run-arounds and excuses: “Why must it take so long? Why can’t they do it properly?”

A family in Ockert Street, Wierda Park, Centurion, are frustrated after a pipe repair left them with nothing but months of headaches.
Resident Chris Mouton never expected the challenges ahead when a leaking water pipe needed to be fixed in October 2022.
The leak, which appears to have run next to the road, required metro teams to dig a large hole to reach the pipe.
“The team messed up the paving and then they never came to close the hole,” said Mouton.
“We waited for them to come and finish the job, but they never came. We waited. A week or two passed and nothing happened. And so it dragged on like that.
“I was concerned when it rained. You had to be so careful with the way that you had to enter the driveway because it was slippery and the rain made it difficult to see the hole. If the car fell in, what then?”
The contractors that came to repair the leak not only left with an incomplete job but had no regard for the people who lived there, according to Mouton.
“My wife’s son gave us some trees, and they just pulled them out and threw them to the side.”
The hole was covered on March 8, almost six months since it was created, but the issue is not concluded as a week after the hole was covered, a pile of soil and damaged pavement still lies in front of the Mouton home.
“When they came to fill up the hole, three guys arrived,” explained Mouton. “One did all the work and the others watched.
“They loaded a bit and partially closed the hole, and then they left. The gardener had to finish filling the hole.
“Why must it take so long? Why can’t they do it properly? Why must we take the sand away? Why must we fix the pavement?”
Mouton has not let the issue go, but he also can’t find answers. He said that when he contacts representatives he gets told that the matter would be reported or escalated. “I tell them we are going to wait a long time.”
Ward councillor Marika Kruger-Muller confirmed that she knew about the issue and had submitted requests to the relevant departments.
“There is currently a very long list of outstanding jobs, which must be attended to by the department. Some of them date back to 2020.”
