Motorists warned of weekend delays on R21 due to routine maintenance
The appointed contractor is expected to assess the road on Friday and start working on Saturday.
Commuters using the R21 highway were warned of planned maintenance scheduled for Saturday, March 18.
Sanral warned road users to expect delays from Saturday onwards.
“The agency wishes to notify road users to expect slight delays on the R21 national road between OR Tambo International Airport and Pomona Road, in the northern and southern directions,” the roads agency said.
Project manager Oakley van Eyk said the appointed contractor was expected to inspect the site on Friday.
“The anticipated completion date is Saturday, May 13. The work will be done from 09:00 until 15:00 every day during the week, including weekends,” said Van Eyk.
Van Eyk said this meant that there will be delays, particularly on Pomona Road southbound up to the OR Tambo International Airport southbound, and OR Tambo International Airport northbound, up to Pomona Road northbound.
“We kindly request motorists to plan their trips accordingly and consider using alternative routes. We appeal to road users for utmost caution, patience and compliance with road signage and speed adjustments in the affected areas.”
