CIT robber sentenced to 59 years after cross pavement robbery

Jabulani Reginald Zitha had been awaiting trial since his arrest on July 1, 2021 at Centurion 55 Mall when he and his accomplice approached a cash guard and a shootout ensued, leaving one dead and another injured.

A man will serve 59 years’ for eight counts of robbery among other charges after ambushing a cash guard at Centurion 55 Mall.

 

The incident took place in 2021.

 

He appeared in court on July 21, 2021, and has been awaiting trial, which started on March 6, 2023.

 

Police spokesperson captain Lloyd Ramovha said Jabulani Reginald Zitha was sentenced at the Pretoria High Court on March 17.

 

Ramovha said the charges were for murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.

 

Ramovha reported that Zitha was arrested on July 1, 2021 at Centurion 55 Mall when he approached a cash guard along with a deceased counterpart, Lucas Loate.

 

“The armed pair confronted the guard who had just collected money from the Super Spar.

 

“The guard was shot and wounded in the leg before the pair fled with the cash bag.

 

“Security guards from SBV reacted to the shooting and chased the pair to the back of the mall where a shootout resulted in Loate being fatally wounded.”

 

He said Zitha was also wounded and taken to hospital for treatment.

 

The Gauteng Provincial Head of the Hawks, Major General Ebrahim Kadwa, has praised the investigators for their tirelessness in ensuring that justice was served in the end.
