Couple celebrates 60-year diamond anniversary with roses and a boat trip

“Manie and Drene Fourie made a promise that they would make it work no matter what,” says their daughter.

A couple in Centurion celebrated a landmark Diamond anniversary with their 60-year marriage that is still going strong.

Manie (82) and Drene (81) Fourie made a promise to each other that they would make their marriage work, no matter what.

Their daughter, Rene Tredoux, said that her parents were inspirational in their love and dedication to each other.

The Fouries in 2022 after 59 years of marriage.

Manie was a career businessman and CEO while Drene is artistic and has made several paintings and designer clothes, including her wedding dress 60 years ago.

The couple moved to Gauteng from Durban where they met, soon after they were married. They have four children, 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and they have always been very active in their church and community.

“Every year, and this year with no exception, Manie spoils Drene with lots of red roses and one white rose for the coming year. This year it will be 60 red roses and one white rose for the year to come,” said Tredoux.

“Their marriage started on their knees. That is how my parents made a success of their happy marriage – it carried them through many trials.

“They still drive around and visit friends. They always hold hands and respect each other with gentleness. Family meals with home cooking are a trade mark.”

For the special occasion, Manie booked a ship cruise from Durban where they met.
