Sinoville crisis centre needs funds to stay open

At the time, the registered community project counselled 15 women who were in abusive relationships by providing support and setting up a safe exit plan.

The Sinoville Crisis Centre said on social media that it urgently needs the public’s financial help to keep its doors open.

After almost 24 years in existence as a registered NPO, it has given free counselling services to victims who have experienced trauma.

Centre CEO Colleen Strauss said the organisation’s regular donors dried up during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The centre depends on debit from two churches in our area.

“We are very grateful and humbled by their continued support, but it is not enough to cover the centre’s escalating running costs.”

Its running costs are currently R8 500 per month.

“SCC makes no profit and we do not get any funding from the government or the national lottery; only our cleaner earns a salary.

“Although we are an NPO, we still need to pay for services like any other business.”

Through their years in service, the centre has provided a large number of victims with counselling ranging from abuse and other traumatic experiences.

Rekord previously reported that the victim empowerment centre has counsellors on the premises to assist the victims of assault, rape and homelessness, to name a few.

At the time, the registered community project counselled 15 women who were in abusive relationships by providing support and setting up a safe exit plan.

The centre hopes to keep its doors open to continue helping those who need them, but this can only be done through the generous donations of businesses and community members.
