Blood service urges residents to donate Type O blood
The SANB said it needs blood Type O, their stocks are critically low.
National South African blood service (SANBS) has pleaded with residents of Pretoria to donate Type O blood at their nearest branch.
SANBS said that stock for this blood type is critically low.
According to its website, the service needs to maintain five-day supply for each blood group to ensure sustained availability for patients in need.
Currently, the service has less than three days supply and is without Type O.
SANBS spokesperson Thandi Mosupye said the service recently launched a campaign #TheColourOfBlood, to embrace diversity and power to save lives.
“The campaign message is centred around the colour of all blood being red, and that is a uniting factor, allowing everyone to contribute to saving lives by donating blood to those in need,” Mosupye added.
To donate, you should be between the ages of 16 and 75, weigh more than 50kg and be in good health.
Donating sites in Pretoria east are Atterbury Value Mart Donor Centre on Atterbury Road next to Spec Savers and Hatfield Donor Centre on 1122 Burnett St, Hatfield Plaza.

Centurion – Centurion Donor & Apheresis Centre (Jean Village) on 121 Gerhard Street, 29 Jean Village Shopping Complex.

The SANB urges everyone eligible to donate to spare 30 minutes of their time and help stabilise blood stock levels.
