Temba police host sports against crime awareness tourney
We have realised that since parents visited relatives while others went to church pilgrimage during Easter, most of the kids will remain home. This was our way to safeguard children while their parents are away,” says Temba police spokesperson.
Temba police in collaboration with the local community policing forum celebrated Easter through a Sports against Crime awareness tourney.
Thirty-two teams around Temba and Hammanskraal participated in different sporting codes such as, soccer, netball and ladies soccer with the winners walking away with trophies, medals and a new sports kit.

Temba police spokesperson Herman Moremi said the tourney accommodated from u-14 children to elderly people or masters.
“Children and elderly people came in their numbers to celebrate this day through sports.

“It was a great day where people learnt about different types of crimes, how to prevent crimes, how to keep safe during Easter holidays as well as keeping fit and getting health benefits through participating in sports.”
Moremi said the campaign was aimed at getting children away from the street during Easter.
“We have realised that since parents visited relatives while others went to church pilgrimage during Easter, most of the kids will remain at home doing nothing and will end up on the streets and get involved in criminal activities.
“This was our way to safeguard children while their parents are away,” he said.
The tournament was sponsored by Unica Factory and Bakwena N1 and N4 highway.
