Over 600 people arrested at weekend
With their raiding operations, the detectives managed to trace and arrest 234 suspects wanted for committing serious crimes.
The police in Tshwane executed successive integrated multi- disciplinary operations over the weekend, resulting in the arrests of 671 people.
They were aided by other law enforcement agencies such as the departments of home affairs and community safety as well as Tshwane metro police and Gauteng traffic, among others.
According to Sergeant Sam Shibambo of the Eersterust police, the carefully crafted crime prevention techniques that were employed during the operations, led to the arrests of 671 people over the weekend.
The detectives managed to trace and arrest 234 suspects wanted for committing serious crimes.
These suspects were all wanted for committing serious offences such as murder, attempted murder, house robbery, assault with intention to cause grievous bodily harm, rape, theft and fraud, among others.
Of those arrested, 68 were for gender-based violence-related cases.
“Eleven motorists were also arrested for drunken driving in the Tshwane central corridor.
“On Saturday, the multidisciplinary and integrated provincial operation O kae molao, was executed in both the Bronkhorstpruit and Ekangala policing precincts,” Shibambo said.
“During the operation, 56 undocumented immigrants were arrested, nine shebeens were closed down for selling liquor without licences or permits and the owners were issued with hefty fines.
“Four motorists were arrested for drunken driving, three suspected drug dealers were nabbed with drugs such as crystal meth and nyaope, another 10 suspects were arrested for possession of drugs and seven suspects were arrested for drinking liquor in public,” Shibambo said.
Shibambo added that the Gauteng Traffic police and Tshwane metro police issued motorists 43 AARTO fines valued at R33 750 for various road traffic offences.
About 750 people as well as 450 vehicles were searched.
The SAPS’ vehicle identification and safe guarding unit seized two Nissan bakkies for enquiry on suspicion that their vehicle identification numbers were tampered with.
All the suspects that were arrested will appear in various courts around the district on Monday.
