R10k reward offered for missing Moot dog

“I have been everywhere but it seems she is simply gone.”

A Môregloed family are offering a R10 000 reward for anyone who can find their dog Nova who went missing on March 7.

According to a Facebook post, Nova is a cross-breed bullterrier female dog who went missing on Ben Swart Street.

She is light brown and has a white patch on her neck.

Her owner, Leonie du Plessis, said she went missing after their refuse was getting collected.

According to a witness from her neighbourhood, Nova was allegedly picked up by two men in an unknown car.

“My neighbour was busy taking the dustbins out when Nova went to the gate,” Du Plessis said.

“She didn’t go out the gate, but at that moment two men in a car stopped and picked her up.”

Du Plessis said she has been handing out flyers everywhere she can in the hopes of getting Nova back.

“I have been everywhere but it seems she is simply gone.”

Du Plessis has opened a case of theft at the Moot police station.

Residents with information on Nova’s whereabouts can contact Leonie at 081 727 5595 or Daan at 071 820 5959.

Police have provided a list of tips to follow to ensure the safety of your pets:

– Microchip your dogs so that in the event of your dog being stolen, the dog can be identified as yours. You must keep your contact details up-to-date, especially if you move house or change your telephone number.

– In the event of your dog being stolen, report the loss/theft to the microchip database which will ensure that if anyone tries to re-register the chip number, you will be informed.

– Allow your dogs to sleep inside at night. Most dogs are stolen at night or early hours of the morning. Sleeping inside provides safety for your dog from being stolen or poisoned.

– If you don’t allow your dogs to sleep inside, place your dogs away from the boundary fence line and road. Sterilise your pet so that if stolen, it cannot be used for breeding.

– Keep your dog/s in your view when they are in the garden, don’t just leave them outside unsupervised. Be aware of strangers in your area and especially those who show an active interest in your dog.
