Sinoville CPF says radios must be retuned
“The window of opportunity to apprehend a criminal is minutes and even seconds before they steal a car or break into a house.
Residents of Sinoville that are part of the two-way radio crime-fighting network are reminded to return the radios for retuning on May 6.
The Sinoville CPF radios are used to give the community direct access to law enforcement including SAPS, metro police and other security role players active in the area for swift action.
CPF spokesperson Lizette du Plooy said that the CPF radio network is monitored 24/7 by a control operation and used for incident reporting and communication when other communication networks are down.
“Incidents are reported by immediately calling it in on your radio. If you don’t use this system, we are powerless.
“Our biggest weapon in crime fighting is information and prompt communication.”
“A two-way radio is a life saver and works when other forms of communication do not, it enables you to communicate in times of crisis and power outages.
“The CPF radio network provides 24-hour access to SAPS and emergency services.”
She said that the CPF has seen a rise in criminal activity in the area.
“Only by being an active CPF member can you contribute to the safety of your family and the larger community.
“The window of opportunity to apprehend a criminal is minutes and even seconds before they steal a car or break into a house.
“Reporting such an incident on your CPF radio gives immediate access and information to SAPS, patrollers and security to respond.”
In March, two members of the Magalieskruin community helped the local CPF apprehend the driver of a stolen vehicle after a resident reported that their Toyota Prado had been stolen.
Proshield security and police responded quickly to locate the stolen vehicle and apprehend the driver.
Du Plooy said the radios are being returned for retuning.
The reason for the annual retuning is to:
– Meet licensing compliance obligations of Icasa
– Keep the integrity of the communications network intact
– Accommodate new radio owners
Du Plooy said on the day, radio owners will also have to confirm their details such as contact details and address – for the database.
“If you are out of town, please arrange with a neighbour, family member or friend to bring your radio in for re-tuning on your behalf.”
Retuning will take place at the Magalieskruin NG Kerk from 08:00 to 14:00 for a fee of R360.
The CPF is looking at upgrading its crime-fighting infrastructure through the introduction of surveillance equipment.
Every donation received gets the forum a step closer to achieving this.
Residents are urged to consider donating towards the CPF to enable it to continue the fight against crime in the community.
