Tshwane sourcing material to repair two-year long pipe leak
The region will continue with the repairs as soon as they can source the required material.
Repairs to a two-year-old leak in Rosslyn had to be put on hold while the Tshwane metro finds a replacement for a badly rusted 400mm diameter steel pipe on the corner of Doreen and R566.
The metro responded to an earlier article by Rekord last week, reporting that a leak, which has been left unrepaired since 2021, has forced a business in Rosslyn in the north of Pretoria to build a channel to divert water to prevent structural damage to its building.
Meanwhile, large parts of Tshwane have been without water for a few days as water reservoirs have run dry.
On March 4, the metro released a statement informing businesses of an emergency shutdown of water supply to the Rosslyn industrial area.
In the statement, the metro said that they had to shut down the water supply as clean water was being wasted by the pipe leak stemming from the main distribution supply.
Tshwane spokesperson Selby Bokaba said the team could not finish the repairs due to the extent of the corrosion on the steel pipe, which requires them to replace the damaged pipe.
“The region will continue with the repairs as soon as we can source the required material.”
