Westpark school commemorates FREEDOM WEEK
Staff members wanted learners to acknowledge that even though Freedom Day is a public holiday, they would always remember its significance.
Local NGO, Kool 2B South African kicked off its national freedom week celebrations recently with a visit to Westpark primary school in Pretoria West.
The “Kool 2B South African flag and freedom appreciation week” takes place from April 20 – 27.
Kool 2B South African founder Khaya “Kool” Seoketsa said the event was like no other in the country.
He added that it’s crucial to educate children on the significance of the South African flag and Freedom Day.


“This celebration is a curtain raiser awareness for the 29th anniversary flag hoisting and freedom appreciation day to be held at Freedom Park, Salvokop,” Seoketsa said adding that the learners would compete in freedom poetry, public speaking, drama, dance categories beforehand.
Westpark learners filled up the hall for the flag appreciation lecture in which they and their teachers later took the time to dissect the meaning of the flag as well as Freedom Day.
The learners, dressed up in the colours of the flag, and according to their grade hoisting the flag.
“The flag hoisting was inspired by the pursuit of respect, total eradication of racism worldwide and South African pride,” Seoketsa continued.

Seoketsa said that Kool 2B South African was looking forward to the upcoming celebrations on Freedom Day at Freedom Park and invited other schools to get in contact to partake in the festivities.
Freedom Park happens to be the birthplace of the NGO as it was launched there on July 29, 2022, to commemorate Mandela Month but had been in the works in Mahikeng since August 2009.
