North firefighting volunteers show their role at local market
A demonstration on how to effectively put out a fire in a vehicle and the procedures to take if someone is trapped in a vehicle accident was given at the Lavender Kontrei Market.
The Sinoville Firefighters (SBBV) were recently invited to the Lavender Kontrei Market in Onderstepoort to show what they as volunteers at the association have to offer the community.
A demonstration on how to effectively put out a fire in a vehicle and the procedures to take if someone is trapped in a vehicle accident was given.
The volunteer firefighters also explained the use of their specialised equipment, such as fire extinguishers, nozzles, and hoses, and when to use these tools to maximise their effectiveness.
Zenobia Loock of SBBV said the team also demonstrated the importance of being prepared for a fire at home or in a vehicle.
“Overall, the SBBV firefighting team gave a comprehensive and informative demonstration that was well-received by the public.”

Loock thanked the market for allowing them to inform the public about what they do as a firefighting organisation.
“We hope that our demonstration has made an impact on the community and that they are now more aware of the importance of being prepared for a fire.”
SBBV is a nonprofit organisation established in June 2014.
It provides service in the greater Sinoville and Pretoria northern suburbs by combating and preventing fires and by complementing the services of the Tshwane metro Fire Brigade – Wonderboom fire station.

Volunteers who join the organisation are trained in first aid, from level 1 to level 3 and SBBV are currently fortunate to have fully qualified firefighters and paramedics on board.
All training and responses to emergencies are funded by SBBV or their members.
The organisation relies on donations from the community to fund its service.
