Capital city’s social scene is ready for you

No matter what entertainment you enjoy, Pretoria has an event for you this weekend.

Railways Café Comedy, May 7

Three local comedians will be cracking up Centurionites with the Chuckles comedy night at Railways Café, every first Sunday of the month.

Catch home-grown talents King Nqoba and Mbali Gudazi, with the prolific Dave Levinsohn, this Sunday for a side-splitting afternoon from 14:00. Railways says that their comedians are responsibly sourced, and made to laugh.

Lee Cole, May 6

Die Blou Hond will host singer, songwriter and producer Lee Cole from 18:30 to 22:30.

The South African-born artist can often be seen at venues across the US, with his pop, confessional, and post-teen pop music showcasing a deep sense of vulnerability in his music.

Kamphoer, May 3 – 7

The darling of South African theatre, television and film, Sandra Prinsloo, returns to the stage in another hit production, Kamphoer – the story of Susan Nell, directed by the internationally acclaimed Lara Foot.

This immersive and gripping will run until Sunday only at the Centurion Theatre, with shows from 19:30 each night until Saturday, and 15:00 on Sunday.

Andra, May 7

Singer-songwriter Andra, originally from Namibia, has found her home in South Africa’s music scene and will be bringing her talents to Jarr Bar for an afternoon to remember.

The Pretoria-based artist will hit the stage from 14:00 for a contrastingly gentle and extreme performance where she hopes to transport her listeners “from sombre nostalgia to exuberant optimism”.

Purely Pretoria Autumn Craft Beer Fest, May 6

This festival featuring purely local breweries is back for the first time since Covid.

The event features five local breweries at the Hazeldean Brewing Co. Taproom with performances by Pretoria artists Tian Nienaber, Swerwer, Zionruts Family and Alouise.

Children are welcome (although not for the beer) with a play area and entertainment, and will run from 10:00 to 18:00.

Joseph Clark – Queen, May 4 – 6

One for the Queen fans. Joseph Clark and guitar virtuoso Axe Lourens are back to mesmerise with their entertaining and spectacular rendition of Queen’s music following overwhelming demand after last year’s sold-out performances.

This show not to be missed will take place from 19:00 to 20:30 at the Atterbury Theatre.

Table Tennis Social Nights in Groenkloof, May 4

Not one for loud music and local shows? Then why not get a bit competitive and have a load of fun with the weekly table tennis nights at Groenkloof Bowling Club?

Entries close at 6:45 p.m. every Thursday and all players are welcome from the most basic beginner to the ultra-competitive.

The venue is licensed and prizes and incentives will be available for all divisions.
