Police investigations lead to four convictions

Four men have been found guilty for their crimes ranging from shoplifting and domestic violence to illegal immigration.
Olievenhoutbosch police spokesperson Sgt. Pretty Mokadi said that the convictions were as a result of investigations carried out by detectives from the station.
Constable Nare Mafifi’s investigation brought to book Redford Leshota, a shoplifter, who was sentenced to 18 months in prison, with an additional four years suspended.
In a separate case, Mafifi’s investigation into an assault case in a domestic violence incident, saw Crispen Mereki sentenced to three months imprisonment with an option of a R6 000 fine.
Additionally, Mereki faces the possibility of deportation following his conviction, said Mokadi.
Meanwhile, Sergeant Phuti Kgowa dealt with cases related to illegal immigration.
Junior Siziba, an undocumented immigrant, was found guilty under the Immigration Act of 2002, Section 13.
Siziba will have to pay a fine of R4 000 or spend four months in prison then face deportation to Zimbabwe.
Similarly, Belinah Lephaloo, who was also an illegal immigrant, was sentenced to four months in prison and will subsequently be deported to Lesotho.
Station commander Lieutenant-Colonel GA Corbett praised the detectives for their hard work, noting the thorough investigation which led to the convictions of the four men.
