Three nabbed in Laudium for malicious damage to property

Laudium police arrested two men, aged 27 and 29, on suspicion of cable theft on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson Simon Chokoe said a case of malicious damage to property has been opened and police were busy with the investigation.

According to reports the duo was selling the cables to a prominent businessman in the area, however, Chokoe could not confirm the allegation.

“A case of malicious damage to property was opened at Laudium police for investigation,” Chokoe said.

He said SAPS confiscated a Nokia cellphone, Samsung photocopy machine valued at R6 000, dishes, clothes and blankets suspected stolen during the arrest.

“As a result of these crimes, many residents are left inconvenienced without power for days,” said local ward councillor, Prajay Ramjee.

“We will assist in making sure the suspect and those aiding this criminal activity face the full might of the law.”

In an unrelated incident Laudium police arrested a 24-year-old man for contravening a court order and attempted murder.

It was alleged the man had bumped into his girlfriend’s car at full speed as he chased her in his.

She sustained unspecified injuries during the incident.

“A case of malicious damage to property, contravening court order and attempted murder case was opened at Laudium police for investigation. The police will continue to leave no stone unturned to ensure that those on the wrong side of the law are brought to book,” said Chokoe.

Laudium police acting commander Captain Ashraaf Packree applauded his members for the arrest.

The three men are expected to appear in the Atteridgeville magistrate’s court soon.
