Mixed reactions to IDP and budget in the west

In-person meetings are coming to an end this week though residents are reminded that they have until May 17, 15:00 to submit their online comments.

As part of the month-long public consultations on the metro’s draft Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and budget plans, representatives recently visited Atteridgeville to hear residents’ comments.

The speaker of the council, Mncedi Ndzwanana, recently announced that public consultation meetings would be held across all regions of the metro virtually and physically starting this past weekend.

On May 7, region 3 residents gathered at the Mlambo community hall in Atteridgeville, Pretoria West, to give their feedback concerning the metro’s IDP, medium-term revenue and expenditure framework (MTREF) as well as draft property rates policy and by-laws.

“IDP is dependent on budget and is pro-poor but it is not possible to address all issues in all regions because of the budget. In the meetings held thus far, most participants provided written and verbal comments,” said ward 92 councillor Leanne de Jager.

Some of the increases in the draft budget previously announced by mayor Cilliers Brink in late April included an 18% hike for electricity, 5% for water services and the bulk purchases tariff for Rand Water increased by 9.2% as well as a 9.2% tariff increase for sanitation and property rates.

In-person meetings are coming to an end this week though residents are reminded that they have until May 17, 15:00 to submit their online comments.

For IDP comments, residents can email idpcomments@tshwane.gov.za and for MTREF comments residents can email Stephani Botes at stephanib@tshwane.gov.za.

For the draft rates policy and by-law, residents can email Sam Chepape at samch@tshwane.gov.za.

Residents can also hand-deliver comments at Tshwane House located at 320 Madiba Street.

In addition to De Jager, other officials at the Atteridgeville meeting included Ald TV Rambau, who did the opening and closing, MMC Kingsley Wakelin who explained the purpose of the meeting and conducted the Q&A alongside ward 59 councillor, Shaun Wilkinson.
