Paramedics donate expired medical stock to animal shelter

“We will continue to donate stock as we can because we get our stock in large numbers.”

A local paramedic service is calling on residents to help a struggling animal shelter in Pretoria.

This after SVTA-Lifemed recently donated expired medical stock, bandages, dressings, syringes and needles to Wollies animal shelter NGO.

SVTA/Lifemed spokesperson Dean Slater said the service can only keep the stock for two years thereafter cannot use it on people because that is against the law, and unethical.

“We donated the first stock last week,” he said.

“We will continue to donate stock as we can because we get our stock in large numbers.”

Slater said Pretoria residents must learn to appreciate animals and understand that not every animal that is on the side of the road is a stray.

“All animals have a right to life and people need to show compassion for dogs.”

Cilla Trexler, founder of Wollies animal shelter and adoption centre, said Wollies is an animal rescue centre that takes care of hundreds of abandoned and abused animals.

“We are grateful for any donations and will use some of the medication stock that is donated to sterilise and maintain the health of animals.

“The shelter relies on donations because it does not always have funds to buy what is needed since it is an NGO,” Trexler added.
