Re Kaofela cleaning campaign to clean up townships

The campaign seeks to highlight the importance of a collective effort in eradicating illegal dumping, as the city cannot win on its own.

In the fight against illegal dumping, the metro has once again launched a waste management clean-up campaign named “Re kaofela”.

The campaign seeks to highlight the importance of a collective effort in eradicating illegal dumping, as the city cannot win on its own.

The metro has appealed to residents, businesses and civic organisations to assist in changing people’s mindsets and actions towards dumping and work together towards a clean Tshwane.

MMC for environment and agriculture management, Ziyanda Zwane said what they intend to achieve with this waste management campaign is to bring together political leaders, stakeholders and communities across Tshwane.

“As the metro we want people to have knowledge and information related to bin and distributions,” he said.

He said the metro wants to highlight environmental education and awareness.

Zwane said residents are invited to join their efforts to keep the communities clean, and residents should help in cleaning up the city to make it beautiful and attractive as “such exercise would portray the Tshwane metro as a well-functioning city”.

Here follows several clean-ups planned for this month:

– On June 5 (Environment Day) the metro will visit Soshanguve wards 12, 26, 30 and 88 alongside Atteridgville/Saulsville and Mamelodi to clean up their communities.

– In Atteridgeville they will visit ward 7, 58, 59, 60, 68, 107 and in Mamelodi it will be ward 16, 28, 43,86, and 101.
– On Thursday, June 15 the metro will focus on Mabopane, Sunnyside, and Mooiplaas.

– On June 23 Soshanguve, Stinkwater/Marikana, Lotus Garden, Olievenhoutbosch, Eersterust, and Gem Valley will be cleaned.

– On June 30, the metro will clean Hammanskraal, Laudium, Cullinan, and Soshanguve.

Residents are urged to join the waste management clean-up campaign in their communities to help fight illegal dumping.
