More than thousand arrested in police ops in Tshwane
A total of 2 624 individuals and 1 124 vehicles were subjected to searches at roadblocks, leading to the issuance of 163 Aarto traffic infringement notices, totaling R112 310.
Tshwane police scored numerous triumphs against lawlessness in a series of joint crime prevention efforts recently arresting 1 068 suspects.
“The large Okae Molao and high-density ops enforced law and order in Tshwane,” said spokesperson Warrant-Officer Johan van Dyk.
The operations stretched over a span of a week from Monday, June 5.
Throughout the week-long operations, a total of 2 624 individuals and 1 124 vehicles were searched at roadblocks, leading to the issuance of 163 Aarto traffic infringement notices, totalling R112 310.
BRONKHORSTSPRUIT SAPS ARRESTED
In the initial operation, bronkhorstspruit saps arrested 13 individuals for illegal immigration.
“One person was arrested for public drinking, and nine Aarto traffic infringement notices were issued, totalling R2 250 in fines.”
Last Tuesday night, the Mamelodi and Eersterust policing precincts launched a sweep of the area to enforce order.
“Six individuals were apprehended for illegal immigration.
“The ops also led to the closure of six illegal shebeens with 57 8412ml of liquor and 20 240 loose cigarettes confiscated which will be disposed of.”
A compliance operation was carried out in Temba and Hammanskraal, focusing on enforcing the liquor and secondhand goods acts.
Seven premises were inspected and it was discovered that they were in violation of the Liquor Act (Act 3 of 2003).
“Fines were issued, and a total of 157 640ml of confiscated liquor will be destroyed.
“Additionally, on the secondhand goods inspection, seven individuals were found to be in violation of the Secondhand Goods Act.
“They were fined R 9 000,” Van Dyk said.
Other disciplines involved in the effort included the TMPD, Gauteng traffic, correctional services, local CPFs and private security companies.
The dedicated efforts of detectives played a significant role in these operations.
A total of 227 suspects were arrested on gender-based violence related crimes.
OTHER SUCCESSES INCLUDE:
– 72 undocumented immigrants arrested, one individual for employing illegal immigrants.
– 24 individuals were busted for public drinking, four individuals for drug possession, and 12 individuals for drug dealing.
– one firearm was seized, and charges will be pressed under the Firearm Control Act, Act 60 of 2000.
– One vehicle was impounded for further investigation due to suspected tampering with chassis and engine numbers.
A TOTAL OF 296 PREMISES WERE VISITED AND SEARCHED
“The premises includes 19 liquor shops, resulting in the closure of 12 illegal liquor outlets and the confiscation of 3 095 292ml of liquor.
“Additionally, various bags containing drugs and 20 240 cigarettes were seized and will be disposed of,” Van Dyk concluded.
Major-General Azwindini Nengovhela urged residents to adhere to the laws and regulations.
“We will work beyond the call of duty to ensure that our residents are safe.”
He sent his gratitude to all relevant role-players for ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens in the capital.
