Tshwane says work on the Pyramid substation is almost finished
So far 85% of the work has been done. The team still has to install AC in the building.
Work to restore power at the Pyramid substation has progressed and is nearing completion.
The Tshwane metro announced that the team is planning to energise the transformer tomorrow, allowing it to soak before it takes on its full load, ensuring a seamless transition
“Approximately 85% of the cable work is done, with 630 incomer cable terminations successfully completed.
“Panel 5, featuring 150 cable feeders to the water treatment plant, has undergone cable jointing and termination. All 150 square metres of feeder cables are now connected and terminated.
“All 240 square metres of feeder cables have been connected and terminated, marking a substantial achievement,” said Selby Bokaba, spokesperson to the Tshwane metro.
This comes after the Pyramid substation caught fire during a storm in Pretoria on September 20 that left farmers and residents without water and electricity for two weeks.
This is the progress made thus far by Tshwane to restore power to residents:
– Key transformer components, including bushings, have been expertly installed.
– Oil purification, a vital step in the process, has been effectively completed.
– Single cores have been successfully integrated into the system.
– The team is currently working on the installation of multicore and control cables for the transformer.
– The installation of the 11kV switchgear panels is now complete.
A critical bus bar pressure testing process has been conducted and tested positive, ensuring the utmost reliability.
“The remaining work includes AC installation to the building which stands at 0%, and this task will be addressed in the upcoming phases of the project,” Bokaba concluded.
