A love for cars brought Pretorians under one roof at its annual show

Scores of vintage car lovers descended to Pretoria Old Motor Club to appreciate the rich heritage

A 57-year-old motor Pretoria show was full of fun fare, vintage and breath-taking cars from the 1930s to the early 40s.

The Pretoria Old Motor Club held its annual spring festival of classic cars at its clubhouse on Sunday.

The show was graced by young and old car lovers who came to showcase their beasts and legendary cars.

An 88 Ford pickup truck owner Robert Dadford told Rekord that he has been driving and owning his truck for the past 30 odd years.

Dadford said his car was running as if it was bought yesterday but won’t travel long distances in it because of his age.

“These days, I am unable to drive it as often as I want to, because of my age. My eyesight is betraying me and also I am becoming a bit slow and that poses a problem for me.”

Dadford said he’s been part of the club since he was a young man.

Car fanatic Jose de Olivier said he’s been a member of the club due to his love for vintage cars.

He has owned a VW Passat coupe for the past 37 years.

“I owned this car since I was a young man, it is the car that I was taught how to drive. I am the second person to own it, it belonged to my godfather then he passed it to me and I have had it since,” he said.

Olivier said the furthest he drove was from Pretoria to Colesburg, adding that he couldn’t drive it back as its pistils had been damaged due to its age.

The Pretoria Old Motor Club CEO, Frik Kraamwinkel.

Club CEO Frik Kraamwinkel said it was important for the club to keep its legacy as those who came before him made sure that the legacy lived on.

“Our next show will be the Japanese vintage show, but there will also be other cars on display. We have a show like this every first Sunday of the month,” said Kraamwinkel.
