Police recover R8m in stolen goods in Hercules
Police discovered the goods in storage. They are still tracing the suspect who was leasing the storage space.
Gauteng police have recovered stolen goods worth R8-million in Hercules.
Spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili said the serious and violent crimes (SVC) police unit had received information that these goods were kept in a storage facility before they swooped in.
“The team is tracing the suspect that has leased the storage facility, which is believed to be the cooling place for goods taken during truck hijackings and warehouse robberies,” Muridili said
The goods included generators, computer screens, solar panels, fans and globes, he added.
Muridili said victims of the robberies of March and May in the Johannesburg CBD and Sebenza warehouse had identified some of the items as theirs.
She said some were identified as stolen during a Heidelberg truck hijacking in April and a Sandton business burglary in November 2022.

Gauteng police commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela commended the unit.
“This discovery has surely dealt a massive blow to a syndicate that has been terrorising Gauteng with truck hijackings and business robberies,” Mawela said.
He expressed his gratitude for the swift action of the unit.
“I have instructed the team to work day and night to trace the suspect.”
He added that the suspect was key to cracking the backbone of the syndicate.
The companies which have already identified their property have made arrangements to recover their stock.
