Tshwane sticks to waste removal schedule
The majority of residents are happy with the municipality’s progress on service delivery.
The Tshwane metro appears to be keeping to its waste removal schedule in most of the areas.
Mamello Sanyane, a Centurion resident told Rekord that despite the municipality’s challenges on certain issues, waste was being collected at the communicated schedule time.
“Our refuse is always been taken out on time, apart from some days when they don’t come but we always receive communication.
Leakages are still a problem but they are being fixed even though it takes forever,” said Sanyane.
Ward 57 councillor David Farquharson said service is extremely slow, however, waste was being collected.
“The service is extremely slow and frustrating to residents and myself. It is also due to the lack of personnel.
The slow recruitment process could also be the reason for the slow service delivery,” Farquharson said.
He asked residents to be patient, as the metro was on the verge of solving the problem by fast-tracking the hiring of new staff.
Ward 59 councillor Shaun Wilkinson expressed his gratitude to all residents in his ward as they displayed exceptional patience during these trying times.
Wilkinson said waste removal in his ward was steaming ahead as planned even though there were days when things were not going to plan.
“The municipality is doing everything it can under circumstances as everyone knows that we have some of the workers who are engaging in illegal strikes.
I want to personally thank the security company operating in our ward, which has assisted us in escorting waste removal trucks every time we needed their services,” he added.
Wilkinson further thanked some residents who personally took their time to take care of workers who were collecting bins in a ward by giving them water.
“Thank you for your patience, support and the refreshing cold water. One resident gave the guys a 2L bottle of frozen water. It was much appreciated.”
Residents had previously taken to social media to complain about the lack of waste collection threatening not to pay for the services they were not receiving.
However, the municipality said it won’t give the residents a reprieve on their waste management bills despite service delivery challenges.
Tshwane could impose water restrictions
