Shooting incident at Woodhill Golf Club rocks Pretoria’s affluent estate

A 36-year-old resident of the upscale Woodhill Residential Estate turned himself in at Garsfontein police station earlier this week after reportedly shooting the security manager at the prestigious Woodhill Golf Club.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, the incident happened on Saturday evening.

The resident, Cedric Kabeya, has been charged with attempted murder and common assault.

“It is reported that the resident had an altercation with a group of people at the club on the evening of November 11. He reportedly assaulted one man and shot the security manager in the hand.”

Woodhill Residential Estate and Country Club CEO Alan Hargroves addressed residents, members, and customers in a letter.

Hargroves expressed regret for the unsavory incident, wishing the injured floor manager a speedy recovery.

He assured the community that the estate would pursue legal actions against the perpetrators.

Here is the letter:

“There was a traumatic incident at the clubhouse last night unfortunately instigated by a resident of the Estate. SAPS were summonsed and all steps are being taken to bring the perpetrators to book, including having them incarcerated.

“Charges have been laid and arrest warrants issued. We are pursuing all legal steps and assure our residents that this abhorrent behaviour will not be tolerated. Our floor manager was injured whilst attempting to pacify the aggressor, and we wish him well and a speedy recovery.

“Residents can rest assured this is an isolated incident, and we will exercise our right to prohibit access to our facilities with immediate effect for these perpetrators. We are implementing further stringent actions in order to avoid a reoccurrence of this type of incident.

“We sincerely apologise to our customers who were witness to this unsavoury incident. I am unable to divulge further details due to the sensitive nature and to not compromise ongoing investigations.”

A concerned resident who wants to remain anonymous “confirmed the security manager has since been discharged and is recuperating”.

According to reports, Kabeya appeared in the Pretoria magistrate’s court on Tuesday, seeking bail.

Kabeya, a businessman residing in the estate for the past three years, denied any wrongdoing.

In his defense, he reportedly claimed that the employee intended to assault him with a bottle, leading to the injury, and not a gunshot as alleged.

The bail amount was set at R5 000, and the court ordered that Kabeya stay away from the estate pending the finalisation of the case.

The matter was postponed to November 28.
