Metro police step up compliance operations

During the operations 18 minibus taxis were impounded for operating without permits and operating on wrong routes.

Tshwane metro police (TMPD) issued fines amounting to almost R1-million during by-law enforcement, road policing and crime prevention operations recently.

Spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said the operations began on Monday, November 6 and wrapped up on Tuesday, November 14.

“These joint operations yielded great results whereby infringement fines amounting to close to R1-million were issued.”

Mahamba said the TMPD conducted a joint operation in Laudium aimed at checking the compliance of businesses and spaza shops regarding the sale of food products on Monday, November 13.

“The focus was mainly on illegal spaza shops and businesses that sell expired and fake food products.”

Mahamba said during this operation, only four of the 15 businesses inspected had a valid operating licence.

“Ten infringement fines were issued for non-compliance and two for contravening various foodstuff legislation,” he added.

He said one business was closed down, three illegal street traders were fined and removed, and five opportunity to rectify (OTR) notices were issued.

Mahamba said during this compliance operation, Tshwane role players from health, fire, waste management and building inspector services were on the ground as well.

He said the operation continued to Wierdabrug where one business was closed for non-compliance and four fines issued.
