Lyttelton community security drive to give back

Santa’s sleigh will start making its way around the neighbourhood starting At Selborn Avenue on Saturday from 17:00, with a surprise for one lucky resident.

Santa is getting his sleigh ready for the Lyttelton Crime Stop security drive to foster a festive spirit, handout treats and give back to the community.
Lyttelton Crime Stop (LCS) chairperson, Stacey Spangenberg, said that the drive would begin in Selborne avenue from 17:00 on Saturday, December 9.

“Father Christmas will be travelling in a bakkie drawn sleigh,” said Spangenberg.
“We welcome all residents in the Lyttelton area between River Road, down to Botha Ave, Trichardt Road and Clifton Ave, to come out into the streets to share in the joy of the festive season.”

She said that members will be able to track Father Christmas via the live location that will be sent via the LCS WhatsApp communication channel.”
The drive is supported by local security companies and community services and businesses in the area.

It’s organised by the six LCS committee members, who identified a local safe house, whose children will be benefitting from the initiative.

“We rely on donations from our members in order to make such a drive possible,” said Spangenberg.
“We thank each and every person, as well as the business’s in our area who made donations this year.”

Spangenberg reminded residents that not all streets could be accessed due to sinkholes affecting the road, but welcomed all in the community to enjoy the tradition.
She added that one lucky family stood the chance to win a R500 petrol voucher.
One sweet packet that will be handed out on the evening contains a handwritten note on the back of the LCS flyer that can be redeemed from Spanenberg.
