Nine-hour water shutdown to affect Centurion suburbs this week

Residents in Wierdapark, Eldoraigne, and surrounding suburbs will face a nine-hour water outage on August 26, as Tshwane metro technicians carry out upgrades to the water supply network.

Tshwane metro spokesperson, Lindela Mashigo, confirmed that the work will require a complete shutdown of the system from 08:00 until 17:00, affecting several neighbourhoods and streets.

“The upgrading work entails joining the existing and newly installed pipelines, as well as a tie-in of the Boekenhout Road water network pipelines,” he said.

The nine-hour interruption will affect the following areas:
– Eldoraigne Aftree Landgoed
– Celtisdal Ext 7 and 8
– Eldoraigne Ext 2, 23, 28, 32, 33, 76, and 84
– Wierdapark Ext 1.

In addition, residents living on the following streets will also be impacted:
– Albatros Street
– Gavin Close
– Kiepersol Road
– Penguin Crescent
– Stinkhout Avenue
– Geelvink Street
– Kokkewiet Street
– Tarryn Close
– Bosduif Crescent
– Gouws Avenue
– Kraanvoël Street
– Pylstert Street
– Theo Street
– Cormorant Crescent
– Grace Crescent
– Lindie Street
– Qumi’s Crescent
– Tortelduif Crescent
– Dianenoekie Street
– Grysvalk Walk
– Loerie Road
– Sashi Street
– Weaver Avenue
– Dortrecht Street
– Hoep-Hoep Avenue
– Marna Street
– Sekelbos Road
– Willem Botha Drive
– Ibis Road
– Megan Street
– Sekretarisvoël Street
– Fergie Place
– Imbuia Avenue
– Melle’s Drive
– Sharon’s Place
– Flamingo Road
– Karee Avenue

Mashigo said the metro understands the inconvenience residents may experience due to these upgrades, and urged residents to use the shutdown as an opportunity to practise water conservation.

According to Mashigo, residents are reminded not to water or irrigate gardens with hosepipes or sprinklers between 06:00 and 18:00, and are encouraged to use grey water for gardening and toilet flushing.

He added that it is important for community members to report water leaks, burst pipes, and any incidents of water wastage, and to install water-saving devices where possible.
