Missing Valhalla teen found safe after disappearance sparked concern
The teen’s disappearance gripped the Valhalla community, but her mother says she is now safe, though the case remains under investigation.
What began as a desperate search for her missing daughter has ended in relief for Valhalla mother, Liza Freislich, after 16-year-old Simonay was found safe this past weekend.
Freislich confirmed that Simonay was located on September 6.
She extended her appreciation to everyone who supported them during the ordeal.
“Simonay was found on Saturday afternoon, and I feel much better knowing that she is safe and back home. I am grateful for all the help we received from the public and what everyone did to raise awareness. I sincerely appreciate it,” she said.
Freislich, however, could not provide further details about her daughter’s disappearance, as the case is still pending.
Simonay’s disappearance had sparked widespread concern after she went missing on Friday, September 5.
She had been dropped off at school that morning but never returned home.
“I last spoke to her around 16:10. She told me she was walking back home from school, but she never arrived,” her mother said at the time.
Before going missing, the Hoërskool Eldoraigne learner had last been seen in her school uniform and was allegedly spotted walking with a 21-year-old man known only as Heinrich.
Both her phone and his were switched off.
Simonay was reported missing at Wierdabrug police station.
