Woman arrested with explosives intercepted on route to Hartbeespoort Dam
Police on patrol halted a suspicious vehicle and discovered illegal explosives in a woman’s luggage, prompting a bomb disposal response.
Atteridgeville SAPS has made an arrest when officers apprehended a woman with explosives travelling to Hartebeespoort.
The arrest came on November 29 at around 09:00, when police on crime-prevention patrols spotted a suspicious Mercedes-Benz Sprinter travelling on the R511 in the direction of Hartbeespoort Dam.
The vehicle was stopped, and the people inside were asked to step out with their luggage for inspection.
“During the search, officers discovered several explosives and explosive components inside the bag of a female passenger. She was unable to provide a valid explanation for being in possession of the items and was immediately placed under arrest.
“The SAPS Bomb Disposal Unit was contacted and [came] to the scene. The explosives were secured and removed for safekeeping,” said police spokesperson, Captain Johan van Dyk.

A case docket was opened, and investigations are underway to determine the origin and intended destination of the explosives.
The suspect was formally charged with the illegal possession of explosives.
Major-General Samuel Thine commended the police officers for their alertness and swift action, noting that their vigilance contributed significantly to public safety.
